POLICE have charged a woman with smuggling money into the Camp Street prison, in Georgetown. Carla Adams (no address given) appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday and pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on May 24, she took $3,000 into the penitentiary.
The defendant said, however, that she had no idea the cash was hidden in a tube of toothpaste which, together with soap, was given her by another woman to take into the jail.
Adams was granted $50,000 bail until June 17.
