On $75,000 bail for unlawful wounding

EDWIN Oukerk, 52, of 76 Sixth Street, Alberttown, yesterday appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry to answer a charge of unlawful wounding.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that on April 22, he unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm on Leon Georgetown.

Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant and the defendant are known to each other. She informed the court that the defendant is having an affair with the virtual complainant’s child’s mother.
Pindar said on the day in question, the defendant and virtual complainant had an argument, and Oukerk lashed Georgetown several times about his body with a steel rod. She said the matter was reported and the defendant was arrested and charged.
The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant had a pervious misunderstanding with the virtual complainant and that he may interfere with the witness.
However, the magistrate overruled the prosecutor’s objection and granted the defendant his pre-trail liberty.
Oukerk was put on $75,000 bail and the matter was transferred to another court for today.
