THE Guyana Defence Force (GDF) was adjudged the Best Gym when the curtain came down on the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association-organised Andrew Lewis National Novices Boxing Championship at the National Gymnasium.
GDF ended with five wins on the final night of the three-day competition to come out ahead of Keith Bazilio’s Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF). However, FYF did not finish empty-handed as junior welterweight Colin Bovell lifted the Best Boxer award.
Theresa London was voted Best Female Boxer. In the Under-15 category Jamaal Eastman took home the trophy reserved for best boxer.  The competition, the largest Novices in a while, started last Friday and concluded on Sunday.
Close to 90 boxers participated. The opening was attended by Director of Sport Neil Kumar, Deputy British High Commissioner Michael Kearney, GABA president Steve Ninvalle and vice-president Eustace Cuffy among others.
