…Georgetown added this year
THE Annual Linwest Inter-School Athletics Games, scheduled for the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground tomorrow, will now take place at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary on Sunday.
This Event, which is developmental in nature and normally attracts the best athletes from Linden and West Demerara between the ages of 13 and 20, has been expanded to accommodate athletes from Georgetown this year, according to one of the organisers, Richard Thompson.
Thompson disclosed that the Games originally exposed and developed talent from the riverine areas but the organisers are not satisfied with the kind of progress they have been seeing over the years prompting the inclusion of the Georgetown athletes.
Thompson also disclosed that scholarships are available to the athletes for Colleges in the USA but that their timings and academic performances have to improve in order for them to cash in.
Sunday’s Games will attract male and female athletes and members of the public are encouraged to come out and witness some exciting races as the best young athletes in the three areas compete for the attractive trophies and medals on offer.
