SOUTH INDIAN business and granite magnate, Mr. R. Veeramani, who visited Guyana recently on an investment scoping mission, is keen on returning to Guyana with a larger investment team comprising several Indian investors.
In a letter to Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo, Mr. Veeramani, Chairman of the Gem Group of Companies, expressed interest in investments in gold, black granite, bauxite and timber, a release from the Office of the Prime Minister stated.
Mr. Veeramani, according to the OPM, has committed to return in the near future with a view to conducting a more detailed technical and economic feasibility analysis before the new investment group visits.
Veeramani recently visited Guyana on a scoping mission while accompanied by his economic advisor, M.R. Gunasekaran. The business magnate’s visit came in response to an open invitation by Prime Minister Nagamootoo who visited Tamil Nadu last year, and addressed the World Tamil Economic Convention.
Prime Minister Nagamootoo welcomed Mr. Veeramani to Guyana and expressed pleasure in having received an enthusiastic commitment to investment opportunities in Guyana.
