RANDY Benjamin was remanded to prison, by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus on Wednesday, on a charge of assaulting his wife, Sharmilla Shaw, to cause her actual bodily harm. He pleaded guilty, admitting that he committed the offence, on April 26, at their Parika, East Bank Essequibo home.
Police Sergeant Sherwin Matthews, prosecuting, told the Court that the defendant, the virtual complainant and their two children went to a kite flying competition.
The Prosecutor said Benjamin left the contest venue without informing Shaw, who took the children and spent the night at her sister.
However, upon returning home, she found the defendant in bed and, when he enquired about the children’s whereabouts, an argument arose.
The prosecutor said Benjamin bit his spouse on the neck and, although she said she did not wish to give evidence, he was sent on remand until May 4. (Juliet Bachu)
