TWO Plaisance, East Coast Demerara men were jailed for one year on Friday on a charge of theft of a motor cycle.
They appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Leron Daly. It is alleged that between the period of July 24, 2017 and July 25, 2017, Shaquille Mentor 21, of Plaisance Housing Scheme and Akeem Pashur 18, of lot 18 Prince William Street Plaisance stole one Honda XR 150 Motorcycle valued 425,000 property of Hananaiyah Ward.
Police Prosecutor Corporal Harris Stated that on the day in question at around 12:30hrs, Ward parked his motorcycle in his yard which was secured by fence and gate bearing locks, and at around 04:30hrs checked on the said motorcycle and discovered it was missing.
A report was then made by Ward and it was during a police patrol that Mentor and Pashur were seen on said motorcycle. On seeing police they proceeded to discard the motorcycle and attempted to flee, police said. Police gave chase and informed them of the report made thereafter taking them in custody and charged the duo. The item was lodged.
The two men who were unrepresented, pleaded guilty to the charge, as they additionally begged for the mercy and leniency of Magistrate Daly. Mentor was previously charged with robbery under arms and made bail, Pashur had no previous court matter. Magistrate Daly made the ruling of one year in prison to both of the accused.
