All writers must ensure their information is not misleading

FREDDIE Kissoon is hubristic in his letter “Did not write about squatters being evicted” (SN Apr 7).  Mr. Kissoon believes he is always right in his unsubstantiated claims and can’t bring himself to admit he erred in his commentary that squatters are to be evicted.  The hallmark of a good writer is to concede when evidence is overwhelming that an error is or was made. Readers haven’t had that from Kissoon since he was reprimanded and forced to apologize by Mr. Glen Lall.  Instead, he seeks to explain how and why he erred saying it is not his fault and even argues he did not err. Mr. Kissoon has shown repeatedly his penchant for distortions, lies, innuendoes, and misleading information.  Kissoon misled readers in his KN column into believing that the electrical power of the squatters was being cut and they would be evicted. It was only after KN sent a reporter to authenticate the claim that it was found to be false.  Instead of admitting it, he rationalises the error and or justifies it as in his apology to Stella (KN Apr 6) saying he wrote what he saw and that he was ill-treated, etc. etc.  That can never excuse peddling incorrect information through the media.  It is worse than propaganda that Freddie rails against.  Reporters and anyone writing for public consumption should do their utmost to make sure that information is not misleading and they should not be influenced by hatred for those who they pen about.
