Trio remanded for robbery under arms

CITY Magistrate Judy Latchman remanded three men to prison on Tuesday after they appeared before her charged with robbery under arms.
Thirty-five-year-old boat operator Winston McKenzie, of New Scheme, Eccles; 29- year- old miner Fayaud Ahmed, who is also a citizen of Canada, of Meadow Bank, Georgetown and Andre Vieira , a taxi driver and fisherman were not required to plead to the charge.

It is alleged that the three men while being armed with handguns robbed Jui Su Chen of one minibus valued $2.3 million, fish glue worth $ 2.7 million $ 260,000 worth of phone cards and $500,000 in cash a total of $28,780,000 at Craig, East Bank Demerara, on May 20, 2017.
The police prosecutor objected to bail based on the nature and gravity of the charge, the amount of cash involved and the fact that dangerous weapons were used. The men were remanded until their next court hearing on July 21.
