A man was taken into police custody on Saturday night, after police conducted a search on a home at Garnett Street, Kitty, where they found eighteen .32 rounds of ammunition, along with an unlicensed .38 Taurus revolver and two matching rounds; a quantity of suspected cocaine; a quantity of suspected marijuana; a quantity of assorted gold jewellery and cash. The items were taken into police possession. The search was prompted, police said, when, around 21:10hrs, ranks of a TSU anti-crime patrol responded to a report of threats involving the use of a firearm and intercepted the driver of motor vehicle PJJ 8117 on Eping Avenue, Bel Air Park.
During a search of the vehicle, an unlicensed .32 Taurus pistol with 15 matching rounds was found. A search was subsequently conducted at the home of the man which led to the discovery of the other articles.
Charges are expected to be made shortly.
Meanwhile, on the West Bank of Demerara, about 23:45hrs on Saturday, two men, one of whom was armed with a firearm, held up pump attendant Carl Singh,19,and sales clerk Alicia Bacchus,21,at the “On the Go” Service Station at Long Pond. The intruders robbed the two of $25,000 in cash and escaped.
Investigations are ongoing.
