Rain washes out first round
STEADY rain washed out the entire first round play in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Hand-in-Hand Mutual Fire Insurance Company Limited-sponsored Under-19 Inter-county cricket competition yesterday.
Demerara were set to face the Select Under-17 team at the Police Sports Club ground, while Berbice were scheduled to oppose Essequibo at the Everest Cricket Club ground.
However, both games were called off just after lunch due to the inclement weather.
The competition, which will be played on a round-robin basis, will continue tomorrow with round two.
Berbice will face Demerara at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, while Essequibo and the Select Under-17 will clash at the Police ground in Eve Leary.
The third round is scheduled for Thursday, with Demerara opposing Essequibo at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, and Berbice facing the Select Under-17 at Everest.
The top teams will play the final on Friday at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
The competition is being used as a yardstick by the junior selectors to pick the Guyana team for the West Indies Cricket Board’s (WICB) Regional Under-19 competition which will take place later this year.
