GUYANA Public Service Union (GPSU) branch chairman at the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC)Gregory Gaspar,is hoping to replace Patrick Yarde as president of the union when the votes at today’s elections are tallied up.
Gaspar, who has been with the GGMC for the past 25 years and currently serves in a senior supervisory position at the agency, has been described as very competent, dedicated and hardworking.
He has been GPSU Branch Chairman at the GGMC for the past 15 years.
A number of GPSU members have been making persistent calls for long-standing GPSU president Patrick Yarde to step aside and allow for fresh faces to run the influential trade union.
Yarde has been president of GPSU for decades and every challenge to his presidency by younger members has proven futile.
The other members campaigning for membership in Gaspar’s leadership team are Sandrene Abrams, who is running for1st Vice President; Unata DeFreitas for 2nd Vice President; Gordon Nestor for 3rd Vice President; Lance Persaud for Deputy General Secretary; Ronda Floris for Principal Assistant Secretary; Colin Ault for Assistant Secretary; Calvin Hamer for Organising Secretary; Trevor Hicks and Lance Persaud for Assistant Organising Secretary; Gopaul Ramatulla for Assistant Education Officer; and Delisa Henry, Victor Pellew, Lance Persaud, Trevor Hicks, Colin Ault and Calvin Hamer as general members.
