THE police are on the hunt for the man who allegedly set his Lot 232 Swamp Section Reef,
He has been identified as 36-year-old Ceenarine Cyril Satrohan, known as “Suresh,” a fish vendor of Rose Hall Market. This newspaper understands that hours before the fire on Monday, he was involved in a heated argument with his wife around 18:45hrs because she had loaned his bicycle to a neighbour.
According to his wife, Sarita Sewindra, called “Simple”, at around 15:45hrs, a neighbour of theirs borrowed the cycle, but when he failed to return it, she went over to enquire about it and was told that he had got drunk and misplaced it.
Upon returning home, she and her husband got into an argument over the bicycle and he allegedly accused her of having an affair with the said neighbour. The woman then decided to take her three children – ages seven, six and five – to her aunt’s house and within minutes, she received a telephone call that her house was on fire.
“After me come home he start fuh quarrel and cuss me up nasty; he seh me ah tek man… that’s why me give am the bicycle…He tell me he guh kill me and meh children dem, so me left and gone by meh auntie across the street,” the distraught wife said.
In tears, she recalled that her husband had threatened to burn the house on numerous occasions with her and the kids in it. As a matter of fact, the man had attempted it on at least three occasions while his wife and the children were asleep, but Sewindra always managed to wake up in time to extinguish the blaze.
On Monday night, it was believed that the fish vendor had perished in the inferno, however, after investigators combed through the debris, no human remains were found.
It was later revealed that the man left immediately after setting the house on fire with two packed bags.
YEARS OF ABUSE
The now homeless wife is of the view that the fire was a premediated act by Satrohan, who has now gone into hiding. According to the woman, over the years, she has suffered tremendous physical and verbal abuse at the hands of her husband and on numerous occasions, he threatened to kill her.
“Normally when he does beat and abuse me, he does go by some family in Vreed-en- Hoop. Last week, he take his ID and passport by his mother and since last week Thursday, how he working, he give he mommy the money so I think he plan to do. “He mean to do this because he had a set of money to collect from them collections he does throw.
Me understand also that the bag he gone with get them children documents inside, so that might be the only thing that save…I think he is in contact with his mother,” the wife said.
Meanwhile, the mother of three said she would be grateful for the public’s assistance to get her life back on track; she can be contacted on telephone number: 666-6079. The police are continuing their investigations with the hope of capturing the suspected arsonist.
