THE Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) will officially launch its 2011 rugby season with the traditional Banks DIH-sponsored Sevens tournament this Sunday commencing from 10:30 h at the National Park Rugby Ground.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr Frank Anthony has been invited to take the salute at the march past of the teams, following which he will deliver the feature remarks at the brief opening ceremony.
The tournament will feature both male and female seven-a-side competitions for the Banks DIH Trophy between Yamaha Caribs, the Guyana Defence Force and the Pepsi Hornets.
Pepsi Hornets are the current holders of the Men’s Trophy, while Yamaha Caribs have in their possession the Women’s Trophy.
The competing teams will assemble at 10:30 h for the march past and salute at 11:00 h.
GRFU’s Match Secretary, Col. John Lewis, has been appointed Match Commissioner of the tournament while the first game will kick off one hour after the march past takes place.
The presentation of trophies will take place at the conclusion of the final game at approximately 17:00 h, with a representative of Banks DIH assisting with the distribution of prizes.
