THE Chronicle’s editorial on the Sugar Industry wages is welcome and necessary. It is very important that a newspaper both question and support policies that impact on the nation’s welfare. All in Guyana must be reminded of the financial and economic realities facing government and other institutions that prevent better wages and benefits. Workers absence and other behaviour could destroy the industry, something government must do whatever is necessary to avoid. Too much was spent and too many people need work for this to happen. A possible profit sharing plan in the future should be considered.
