Super-specialty hospital will be a success story

THE President has announced that by the end of 2011 construction of a new super-specialty hospital will begin on the East Coast of Demerara. A successful health care institution story begins at ground zero. When medical facilities are in a very nascent stage in Guyana, it started emerging as one of the first ideas by the President to foresee the requirements for quality health care. President Bharrat Jagdeo utilised this opportunity to provide better health care to the common man and woman by initiating the first super-specialty hospital which will be a success story when completed.
The President’s dream to provide comprehensive facilities in preventive, curative and rehabilitative care to the patients will be the first in the Caribbean with state-of-the-art equipment and a screening laboratory. Its diagnostic services will be among the best in the Caribbean. This hospital according to my understanding and what I have seen in India will have a large number of beds, leading consultants of high professional standing and expertise will manage this hospital, as well as visiting consultants backed by a team of well-trained resident, junior consultants, also experienced trained nurses and technicians.
People from all over the country will come to this hospital to receive its advanced treatment and facilities and the cost will be affordable to all classes of people and there will be concessional treatment to the economically weaker sections of the society.
The special overseas patient facilities will provide round-the-clock service like accommodation for attendant, local sight seeing, door-to-door services, that is, picking up the patient and his relatives from the Airport and Hotel.
Today, treatment strategies have changed drastically because of technological advances in surgery (minimal surgery) chemotherapy (drugs with lesser side effects), etc, the Guyanese people welcome and take great pleasure in this new type of hospital. World-class medical care and treatment will also be provided to patients from North America and the Diaspora.
This hospital will be recognised by both the Governments of India and Guyana to handle any acute medical or surgical emergency and will be the first private hospital to be exclusively designed, equipped and staffed solely for all treatment and conditions.
