Man shot, wounded after attacking policeman

THE Police are investigating an incident which occurred  about just after midnight on Friday at Hadfield and Smyth Streets, during which Kwame Bruce, 32, of Lot 26 Norton Street, Wortmanville, also in Georgetown, was shot and injured by an armed policeman. A release said investigations revealed that Detective Lance Corporal Desmond Chin was walking along Cornhill Street, in the city, too, when he was attacked by Bruce, who attempted to chop him with a cutlass.
The release said Chin ran to the Mobile Police Outpost at Stabroek Market and sought the assistance of ranks stationed there.
Subsequently, during efforts to arrest him, Bruce was shot on his left thigh after he brandished the same weapon at the ranks, causing them to resort to the use of force, the release said.
It added that Bruce was taken to Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where he was treated and sent away, and is presently in Police custody.
