THE eighth annual Carlton Wheelers Cycle Club (CWCC) organized track meet pedals off tomorrow at the Everest Cricket Club ground, where 29 races are slated with the first pedaling off at 12:30h.
Guyana’s leading cyclists in all the various categories will take a break from their continuous battles on the road and the Inner Circuit of the National Park, to switch cycles and resume their competition on the grass track at the Camp Road venue. With the likes of Alonzo Greaves, Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams, Geron Williams participating in the Commonwealth Games in India and Warren McKay not in the mix, the other riders in the caliber of differently able Walter Grant-Stuart, Enzo Matthews and Jude Bentley, just to name a few will be looking to snatch the initiative and stamp their authority on the field.
Grant-Stuart is the winner of last year’s feature 30 lap event and is presently in fine form, therefore he should be aiming for a repeat to show that his victory last year was by sheer strength and determination and not a fluke.
But with other riders in the caliber of Robin Persaud, Eric Sankar, Kennard Lovell, Linden Blackman, Enzo Matthews, Kurt La Rose, Paul De Nobrega, Kirkwood Kendall, Aubrey Springer, Walter Isaacs, Linden Blackman, Tony Simon, Christopher Persaud, Junior Niles will all be in contention in the senior and veteran races.
Among the names competing in the BMX races are Anthonio Samaroo, Ethen Conway, Christopher Griffith, Deeraj Gajbarran, Jaleel Jackson, Darius Ramsammy and Devanand Bissoon among others.
Following is a list of the events listed for tomorrow: 12 to 14 yrs Boys & Girls Open, Category 1 & 2, Juniors, Category 3 & 4, Juveniles, Veteran Under and Over 50 years, Upright Cyclists, BMX Boys Open, BMX Boys 12 to 14 years, BMX Boys 9 to 12 years, BMX Boys 6 to 9 years and BMX Girls 6 to 12 years.
