A REGULAR outing ended tragically for a Diamond, East Bank Demerara family, when 17-year-old Vishal Ram met his death in Madewini Creek, along Soesdyke/Linden Highway on Sunday. His grieving mother, Indira Ram said, yesterday, between wailing and sobbing, that her only son was among five family members, who left home at 14:00 hrs in two motor cars.
She said they were having a good time until he went missing about 18:00 hrs and a frantic search, for him, began.
He had been, mostly, with a friend from the village and she checked on him a few times and learnt that he was involved in a quarrel, with a man, over a girl.
The woman recalled that the teenager was dancing and having a few drinks and nothing seemed out of the ordinary until they were about to embark on the return journey and he could not be found.
She told reporters that, after being alerted that he was rescued, from in the water by other persons, she saw him and he was breathing but started to vomit and, by the time he reached a hospital, he died.
She appealed to persons, who may know of the tragic circumstances, to come forward with information so justice could be served.
She said the first time her son went into the water he reported that it was cold and he liked it. He took several dips and was even seen playing in the sand with a young woman.
She denied that her son plunged into the deep from a bridge as was stated in other sections of the media but could not say how he met his death.
The construction worker would have celebrated his 18th birthday next month and is survived by his parents, a sister and relatives.
His father, Muneshwar Ram, made a report of the tragedy at the Timehri Police Station.
