ACTING Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday remanded Gordon Klien to prison on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and simple larceny.
The defendant, of Lot 76 Stone Avenue, Campbellville, pleaded not guilty to all the charges, two of which stated that, on January 15, on Sheriff Street, also in Georgetown, he had 11 rounds of .32 ammunition and a .32 Taurus pistol, while not the holder of licences for them.
It is alleged, as well, that, the same day, he stole a cellular phone worth $140,000, property of Shaundell Jones and a Taurus pistol, valued $235,000, property of Vishnu Budhan.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, told the Court that Jones and Budhan had an argument on Sheriff Street and the latter held on to the former, in the process causing the gun and the phone to fall to the ground.
The Prosecutor said, when Budhan turned around, he saw the defendant picking up the items and escaping.
Harvey added that 13 rounds were loaded in the gun but only 11 were recovered.
Klien has to be back in Court on February 1.
