Official launch of Guyana’s programme set for tomorrow
IN keeping with its obligation as a Member State of the United Nations (UN), Guyana is set to launch its year-long national programme of activities for the International Year for People of African Descent.
The Opening Ceremony, under the theme ‘People of African Descent – Recognition, Justice and Development’, is scheduled for tomorrow at the Guyana International Conference Centre, Liliendaal, beginning at 17:00 hrs (5:00 pm).
Consequent upon wide-spread and sustained consultations with known Afro-Guyanese organizations, a Draft Official Programme has been fashioned and is scheduled for year-long implementation, after final confirmation, according to a statement from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
The GICC represents a change of venue from the National Cultural Centre.
The Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport has issued invitations for the event at which representatives from the United Nations, the Government, the Parliamentary Opposition, the Diplomatic Corps, numerous African-oriented organizations and the general public is expected to be present.
A brief, appropriate cultural programme is also planned.
