THE Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has been invited by the Martinique Football League to participate in the 8th edition of the annual Paul Chillan U-16 and U-17 tournaments to be staged in the French territory on March 3 and 4.
Speaking to Chronicle Sport yesterday the GFF president Wayne Forde said that he was delighted with the invitation and confirmed that an Under-17 team will be sent.
The football boss added that the recent tour by the U-15s to French Guiana has opened up many doors for the GFF to explore and exploit.
“We are expected to host the reinvention of the Inter Guianas football this year and it will be one that will include the Senior and Youth National teams from French Guiana and Suriname as well as their national Club champions and representative Girls teams playing in competition over a one-week period,” Forde stated.
When questioned on the promise he made to announce the new General Secretary of the GFF by the January 2, Forde declared that circumstances beyond the control of the GFF is the reason for the slight delay, but assured it will be made known very shortly.
“We have no control of the procedure that surrounds the new appointee’s amicable departure from the job she is coming from to take up the post. I am positive within the next 24 hours the process will be completed and the official announcement will be made,” Forde stated.
Forde ended by saying, “All I can confirm is that the new GS will be a female and no stranger to football.”
