For improved security of visitors…
MINISTER of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee, said in 2010, the Ministry of Home Affairs had embarked on the formulation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG), to formalize cooperation between the two agencies. On Friday he told a press conference it is anticipated that the MOU, which will provide for the sharing of information and ideas, for the enhancement of the safety and security of visitors to Guyana, and for the implementation of specific regulations and security measures at identified tourism zones, inter alia, will be concluded this year.
As for colour-coding of taxis, he said the ministry and the Police held several meetings in 2010 with the Guyana Taxi Services Association, and independent operators of taxis, to give effect to the new measure.
Rohee told reporters that the deadline for compliance with the colour-coding of taxis was January 01, 2011.
However, he noted that his ministry collaborated with the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce and saw the adoption of a code of ethics for taxi drivers, on November 03, 2010.
Rohee said, “As a result of our engagement with the stakeholders in the sector, a new dispensation is expected to prevail, marked by an improvement in the safety and quality of service provided to the travelling public.”
