I was happy to read in the press that President Jagdeo once again made it clear that elections will be held this year. These remarks come at a time when sections of the media and some elements in the opposition parties continuously pronounce on the possibility of a delay engineered by the President. Clearly this is not the intent of Mr. Jagdeo. In fact, it appears that the opposition parties, particularly the PNCR, are hopeful of such a delay which they believe will give then much needed time to organize and mount a credible fight.
Instead of harbouring this false hope it would serve them well to get their act together and at least try to marshal some support since they seem to have none at the moment.
