Mr. TONEY James, head of little Amerindian Peoples Association (APA) claims that his life is in danger and that he has been threatened. Now let us study this a little: 1. He took his complaint to various international bodies.
2. He did not report to the police.
3. He did not report to the Minister of Home Affairs.
4. He did not call on the most open and available leader in the country, the Hon. Samuel A. Hinds, Prime Minister.
But he took his complaint international. This does not make sense to logical minded persons, and this writer is such a person.
It is known that some people for political reasons, make allegations and statements, even ferment conspiracies, and create riotous situations for political reasons for parties of their choice, thinking in some way they are doing good. Others do so for personal ambitions.
If anyone is threatened in Guyana, we have a dynamic and independent Police force, with most, if not all being true professionals. My question is this: ‘Why has Mr. James not gone to the police to record his complaint?’
This is a serious question, unless, Mr. James has a personal political agenda and maybe a vendetta.
Is it possible that there is an ulterior motive for him not going to the police? Maybe the answer is quite simple, when one thinks of it. If found lying and merely being mischievous, the police could institute criminal charges for misleading the police and lying to a Police Officer.
Hence, Mr. James is maybe legally advised on what seems to be his mischief and how to do it right.
Then, there are the international organisations providing financial and moral support to him, and calling on the Guyanese government to provide protection.
This is interesting, very interesting, in that they do not demand that he goes and report to the police firstly, but calls on government to intervene.
In Law enforcement, this is not how it works usually. The government cannot go seek someone out and say, we heard so and so and wish to do so and so. He has to create his complaint, and then generate proper action.
As a known name he could have approached the Crime Chief or Commissioner of Police who are all known to be approachable, and by doing this he will get some of the sympathetic indigenous organisations to provide money.
So this thing just does not ‘gel’. Something seems wrong. Is it possible that money is involved; is there accountability for this money? I suggest that the Amerindian Affairs Minister invite him and ask him the pertinent questions, advice he goes to the police, but ask about funding and accountability.
In enquiring, we must know where the threat came from. Who told him? This nonsense of threats comes at times from all kinds of ‘willy nilly’ wicked people.
I recall a senior or Chief Magistrate saying she was walking in the market and someone told her, her life is in danger. Such nonsense, maybe someone said it for their own selfish purpose like getting a favour or a small piece. Some Guyanese are like this.
I have been told several times that my life is in danger, someone in government wants to get me, and right now I was told that a Regional Senior Government Officer is trying to damage a counterpart, and in the process working to haul me down.
This is Guyana and I had a good laugh. People are like this. I was told I was next to be kidnapped. I was next to be killed by the escaped criminals. That certain opposition does not like my openness and so they will get me. Such nonsense makes me want to puke.
I am happy that in Guyana we have not reached such terrible dimensions, where people are killed for opinions.
In the Burnhamite era maybe, but not in the Hoyte’s era, Cheddi Jagan’s era, Samuel Hinds era, Janet Jagan’s era or the Jagdeo era. The Hoyte era did set Guyana on a path of respect for opinions and democracy as fought for by the PCD.
So, maybe some idiot just said so to Mr. James to excite him or maybe it is just a personal conspiracy for personal and political gains.
This guy refused to attend the summit (multi-stakeholders committee on LCDS, REDD +), though his organisation was invited, and like any democracy, he had a right to attend and a right not to attend.
As the matter is now published in the press, it is as if he has lodged a complaint, maybe the police can call him in, investigate, and if found ludicrous, have him charged. If he wants no action, publicize it. If credible, then do a thorough investigation.
As a Guyanese who love this country, I see good and better, even when things are tough. It hurts me when people only complain and try to destroy. We have too many of them around. Certain professional protestors and complainants, with bitterness in their hearts for their birth, their existence, their parents, their God, they are bitter about everything, these are “permo-complainants,” as I call them.
They are annoyed with everyone or everything except who follow them. They like to tell political leaders, anyone, in or out of power, how and what to do, how to govern, and they cannot govern their own homes or personal lives or operate a political party or win a third of one single seat in parliament.
