IF DANCE has been a part of the programme of any local event you have attended, then surely you must have seen Fiano Spencer demonstrating her talent on stage. Dancing professionally for the last eight years, 27-year-old Fiano has performed on some of Guyana’s most prestigious platforms as part of the Classique Dance Company for several years.

Today, she forms part of the Free Souls Dance Theatre, and continues to pursue her dream of eventually dancing for Soca sensation, Machel Montano.
In an interview with The Buzz, Fiano reminisced on her beginnings as a dancer, stating that she grew up watching her mother and sister dance, and learned from them.
“I started dancing since Nursery School all the way into Secondary School, but my mom didn’t sign me up for any official classes, because, you know, in Guyana people don’t see it as a profession,” Fiano said.

RHYTHM AND FLOW
It wasn’t until she attended Rhythm and Flow, a production by the Classique Dance Company in 2008, that she decided to finally make dancing a steady part of her life.
“I was amazed, because I had never seen that kind of talent and that kind of dance. From then on, I made up my mind that I was joining Classique, and nothing and no one could stop me,” Fiano said.
Her years of dance have since seen her participating on many stages, including while touring with the group to several countries and here in Guyana for a meeting of UNASUR heads in 2011.
Nowadays, Fiano’s portfolio has also expanded to include fitness and exercise activities as well.
In the last two years, she has been the recipient of several awards at events such as the Fitness Paradise Gym Show and the Flex Night Fitness Competition.
She also currently teaches Zumba and Dance workouts at the Fitness Paradise Gym and for individual companies through her business, ‘Fire Feelinz’ Dance workout.
She says that even though dancing is not seen as a profession in Guyana, it remains her passion, and she is glad to have built her life around it.
