A motorist is in police custody following a fatal accident at Lusignan Public Road, East Coast Demerara, early yesterday morning.
Dead is Mark Seebarran, 30, of 301 Lusignan West, East Coast Demerara. His wife, Melissa Robinson, 22, told the Guyana Chronicle that she was being towed on a bicycle by her husband at about 03:10 hours on Sunday morning when the accident occurred.
The grieving woman added that they had already made it across the Lusignan Public Road when a speeding car hit them from behind.
Robinson said she could not remember what happened after that; but when she regained consciousness, she was in a police vehicle and her husband was beside her.
The woman noted that her husband was bleeding from his mouth and he appeared to be lifeless. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Robinson told the Guyana Chronicle that she was treated and sent away but is unable to stand or walk due to injuries about her body.
She explained that at the time of the accident they were returning home from a New Year’s party, and luckily their daughter was not with them.
The woman added too that their only child, who is five, has a brain tumor that requires surgery overseas. And now the family has suffered a terrible blow with the death of her husband, who is the sole provider for the home.
Investigations so far have revealed that the driver of motor car HB 7825 was proceeding along the roadway when it is alleged that Mark Seebarran who was towing Melissa Robinson, also of Lusignan, rode out from an access road unto the main road and was struck down by the motor vehicle.
They both received injuries and were taken to the GPH where Mark Seebarran was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the motor car is in police custody assisting with investigations.
