FOR the fourth successive year, teams from the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) have renewed their sponsorship of the Berbice Cricket Board’s (BCB) Annual Educational Award Scheme. The club’s Farfan and Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17, Pepsi Under-19, Gizmos and Gadgets Under-23 and first division along with Metro Female teams last Thursday handed over $200 000 worth of educational and hygiene kits to the Board during a simple presentation ceremony.
In making the presentation, assistant secretary of the RHTYSC Nermala Sewdat, who is a member of the Metro Female team and is also a teacher by profession, hailed the outstanding relationship that the club shared with the BCB.
She noted that the RHTYSC was committed towards the development of cricket in Berbice and the sponsorship was just one of several that the Club has done this year.
Sewdat stated that her club was very passionate about the importance of education for youths and that is why they invest millions of dollars each year into an anti-drugs and pro-education campaign that targeted 60 000 youths in Berbice.
She expressed gratitude to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Bernice Mansell Foundation for their undying support of the club’s programme.
In accepting the sponsorship, secretary of the BCB, Angela Haniff, hailed the continued cooperation of the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) Club-of-the-Year 2010 and highlighted the Club’s contribution to the development of Berbice cricket.
Haniff disclosed that the Educational Awards Scheme would be held on January 12 2011 and would kick off the BCB’s calendar of activities for 2011, since the BCB has set itself a target of 15 tournaments from Under-13 to senior levels and a total of 75 off-the-field projects.
A total of 20 Under-15 cricketers drawn from across the Ancient County would each receive a $10 000 worth of educational and hygiene package.
