GUYANA Water Inc. (GWI), yesterday, announced the death of 22-year old Rhett Cole, who was attached to its Linden Division, as a Board of Industrial Training (BIT) trainee. GWI Divisional Operations Manager, Mr. Rawle Friday, said Cole was part of a team addressing an electrical phasing problem at the Mackenzie Water Treatment Plant, with assistance from technicians of Linden Electricity Company Incorporated (LECI), when he died.
He said the utility is awaiting reports from its Occupational Health and Safety Officer and Linden Police, which will provide further details on the unfortunate incident.
“At this time, we cannot provide details on the matter until a full investigation has been conducted by the Police and the Company’s own Health and Safety Officer,” GWI said.
Acting Chief Executive of GWI, Attorney-at-Law Mr. Nigel Niles visited the scene where the fatality occurred and said, after, that his thoughts are with the Cole family and loved ones.
“We are deeply saddened by this and wish to extend our heartfelt sympathy to Rhett’s family. GWI will provide all assistance to the Linden Police in their investigation,” a statement said, extending condolences to the family of the deceased and assuring them that all cooperation will be provided with regard to the investigation.
