THREE men, charged, separately, with illegal drug possession, were each fined $10,000 with the alternative of six months
imprisonment, by Magistrate Tejnarine Ramroop. In addition, the trio, who appeared at Albion Court, must, individually, do six months community service, three days a week for three
hours daily.
One of them, Dairam Barran, of Number Seven, at Corentyne, also, was at his home when a party of policemen visited to make routine
checks for arms, ammunition and wanted persons.
In the process, they found one and a half grammes of leaves, seeds and stems of the prohibited plant on the defendant’s refrigerator.
Another of the defendants, Aubrey Layne alias ‘Bling’ , of Lot 47 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, was seen throwing away a lighted
‘spiff’ (part of a narcotic cigarette) weighing half a gramme, at Patrick Dam, Mount Sinai, during a Police raid on December 21.
The third man, Quacy Welcome, 30, of High Dam, in Mount Sinai, too, was busted when Police went to his house and smelt burning
marijuana, before finding half a gramme of it wrapped in ‘fronto’ (tobacco leaf].
