Four Venezuelans remanded on illegal guns, ammo charges

FOUR Venezuela nationals were yesterday remanded to prison on charges of unlawful possession of guns and ammunition.
Roist Ramon Malavo Castellano, Luis Angel Mancillo, Carlos Eovardo Crosso Marcamo and Rafael Enrique Marques appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and were denied bail.

Particulars of one of the offences charged against them said, on December 7, they had one .38 revolver, one 16-gauge shotgun and one 20-gauge shotgun, without being holders of firearm licences.
Another allegation is that the defendants had six rounds of .38 ammunition, ten 20-gauge cartridges and twelve 16-gauge cartridges, without licences for them.
Two of then pleaded not guilty but Mancillo pleaded guilty to both charges and, through an interpreter, said, because of the work he does on the border between Guyana and Venezuela, he is required to carry guns.
He claims he transports passengers and foodstuff and the magistrate postponed sentence on him to December 30, when the others have to be back in Court.
