Uitvlugt Warriors beat Veggae Boyz 3-1 to move top of points table
… Young Achievers held to 2-2 draw by Eagles
UITVLUGT Warriors secured a 3-1 win over Veggae Boyz to move to the top of the points standings of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/STAG Beer Senior League for West Demerara teams, when play in the competition continued last Sunday at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground. Young Achievers were held to a 2-2 draw by Eagles.
According to information received, Daniel Eloy sent Uitvlugt Warriors into the lead with a 24th minute goal but Veggae Boyz bounced back and levelled the score through a Teron Jones 26th minute goal.
Three minutes later, Jermain Accra made his presence felt with a conversion to see Uitvlugt regain the lead.
Seven minutes into the second half, Kevin Duke sealed the issue to give Uitvlugt a 3-1 victory.
With the win, Uitvlugt move to 19 points from seven matches, similar to former longtime points leaders Den Amstel who also have 19 points from seven matches, but Uitvlugt have a plus 22 goal difference as against Den Amstel’s plus 10.
Pouderoyen, who played seven matches, place third with 17 points and a goal difference of plus 21. They won five of their matches and drew the other two.
The loss by Veggae Boyz will see them remaining in the cellar position in the 11-team league with a mere three points from nine matches.
Meanwhile, in the feature game on Sunday, Young Achievers, after being two goals down, battled back to secure a 2-2 tie against Eagles, compliments of a second-half double off the boot of Lloyd Prince.
Seon Miller and Alkeba Black gave Eagles a 2-0 lead, with goals in the 23rd and 55th minutes respectively. But Prince reduced the deficit in the 79th minute from the penalty spot then scored the equaliser ten minutes later.
Young Achievers remain fourth in the points standings with 16 points from 10 matches with a goal difference of plus 11.
Eagles, on the other hand, is sixth with 12 points from eight matches and a plus 10 goal difference.
