LEROY Benjamin, 44, of South Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara is said to be the latest road fatality after being struck down by a minibus on Tuesday night. Police yesterday said they are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at about 22:30 hrs on Tuesday night on the Rupert Craig Highway, Georgetown, and which resulted in the death of Benjamin, who was a pedestrian at the time.
Police said their investigations revealed that the driver of minibus, BHH 4522, was proceeding along the roadway when it is alleged that Benjamin attempted to cross the road and was struck down.
He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival, Police reported.
The driver of the motor vehicle is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
