Georgetown Floodlights edge East Coast by five wickets
GEORGETOWN Floodlights edged East Coast Floodlights team by five-wickets in a thrilling 25 overs- a side softball encounter which was played at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground last Friday evening.


After the contest, the Guyana Floodlights Softball Association (GFSA) team accumulated and handed over $210, 000 to Seema Ganesh, a teenage girl from Enmore East Coast Demerara, who will be travelling to Canada for an operation of a dislocated spine.

The visitors batted first and scored a challenging 168-9 at the expiration of their 25 overs, while Georgetown, in reply, struggled to 169-5 in the final over with skipper and opener Derick Ramoutar leading the way with 45.

Ramoutar got good contributions from the veterans Wayne Jones and Ramesh Sunich who contributed 23 not out and 21 respectively as Rohan Boodraj grabbed three wickets for 18 runs from his allotted five overs.

Earlier, skipper Bedi Ramjewan scored a rapid 28 to see East Coast to their total, while former national wicketkeeper/batsman Sheik Mohamed supported with 19. Ramchand Ragbeer snatched 3-23 off five overs, and Mike Singh with 2-29 off five overs.

Several trophies were presented to the winning team, man-of-the-match Ramoutar, and other outstanding individual performances, compliments of Sir Deoraj Nauth, Lakeram Ganesh and Trophy Stall of Bourda Market and City Mall.

Meanwhile, the match was organized by Mohamed along with the GFSA representative Jailall Deodass, while the family of Seema also attended the game, and expressed their gratitude to the GFSA for making the contribution which will go a far way towards the operation.
