THE Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) has finally confirmed that its annual summer cricket camp will run from today to August 26 at the club’s ground and pavilion on Lance Gibbs Street, Queenstown, Georgetown.The daily activities will commence at 09:00hrs and conclude at 15:00hrs.
The camp is opened to any youngster between the ages of 10 and 16 years who have an interest in cricket and are looking to improve their skills and knowledge of the game.
The camp will run from Monday to Friday for just over two weeks, and will include classroom type instructions/lectures,and on-field fitness and cricket exercises, with a presentation ceremony at the end of the final day.
Registration and attendance will attract a small cost. Snacks and beverages will be provided free of cost.
Meanwhile, in a release,the club also bid farewell to Sachin Singh, Qumar Torrington,and Ashmead Nedd, as they leave for England with the West Indies team to participate in the Under-16 invitational tour.
These three youngsters are products of the club’s annual summer camp which has been part of their calendar of events for the past six years.
President of the Club, Alfred Mentore, extended best wishes to the youngsters as they embark on their international tour, and posited that the success of these players is testimony to the importance, need and benefits of the summer camp.
Mentore further observed that these players have continued both the high standards set by their predecessors and the rich legacy of the club in continuing to produce talented players for Guyana and the West Indies.
He also took the opportunity to encourage the corporate community to join in sponsoring the camp as the club seeks to identify new talents and ensure the longevity and continuity of this great sport that we all love.
Summer Camps serves multiple purposes for youths, families and communities, and is a great social cohesive opportunity to keep children occupied, away from social ills, and an ideal form of getaway during the school holidays, which prevents them from getting involved in delinquent activities.
