KHYRAN Daniels, 23, was yesterday refused bail on charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The defendant (no address given) appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson and pleaded not guilty to having, on September 4, a .22 pistol and one live matching round, without being the holder of licences for them. Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, successfully objected to pre-trial freedom for Daniels, pointing out that the law is against the grant.
The Prosecutor was given September 23 as the date for report on the case and trial fixture, until then the defendant was remanded to prison.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Adrian Thompson, who represented the prisoner, had requested reasonable surety and submitted that the gun and bullet were not found on the defendant and he had no previous convictions.
The lawyer said two other persons were held for the same offence but were released because the Police were unsure who should be charged.
