THE AFC is making it a habit of embarrassing itself in public. Over the past several months so many AFC blunders have happened that it is hard to keep count. A few need to be singled out. There was the leadership blowout which forced the AFC to say that Mr. Ramjattan will be the next leader; then a senior member of the party resigned claiming that the AFC lacks internal democracy; and who can forget the mess that was made in parliament by Mr. Ramjattan when he questioned the authenticity of parliamentary records, something he had to apologise for. The latest AFC blunder concerns irresponsible statements made by the party regarding its little trip to the USA in mid August. I can assure the Guyanese people that contrary to the inflammatory claims of the AFC, no one has been hurt.
Finally, it must be noted that the AFC leadership travels more out of Guyana than to interior parts of the country. President Jagdeo on the other hand has been to the following places in Guyana over the past few months –Dartmouth, Anna Regina, Sophia, Cotton Field, Wakenaam, Linden, Skeldon, Tuschen, St. Cuthbert’s Mission, Providence, Enmore, Cotton Tree, Buxton, Friendship, Container City, and West Ruimveldt. These are just a few.
In all of these places the President spent hours engaging and finding solutions with local residents and regional leaders. The AFC by contrast is never to be seen among the Guyanese people doing actual work. Most of their time is spent criticizing. Imagine the party wastes money by going to New York and then wastes the time of the Guyanese people by reporting on their little trip to New York.
