A man who is charged with several counts of fraud, attempted suicide at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, moments after he appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan on Wednesday.

The Guyana Chronicle has confirmed that 43 – year – old Michael Persaud of Lot 15 Public Road, Herstelling East Bank Demerara, ingested a poisonous substance, which was concealed in a bottle.

Police stationed at the court acted quickly and rushed Persaud to the Georgetown Public Hospital. It is not yet clear how the accused gained access to the poisonous substance.

Persaud was on bail but had it revoked today by the Chief Magistrate, who then remanded him to prison.
