THE Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) has selected a team of six to represent this country at the Creole Games set for later this month in French Guiana.The team consists of only Youth and Junior boxers and would be led by the talented bantamweight Keevin Allicock from the Harpy Eagles Gym.
The composition of the team reflects the GABA decision to place emphasis on the nursery of the sport, the association president Steve Ninvalle said.
He added that all members of the team participated in the inaugural International Schoolboys and Juniors tournament held in April at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Guyana won two of the three gold medals up for grabs then. The Creole Games is scheduled for June 29 to July 3 in Cayenne, the capital of French Guiana. So far Guadeloupe, Martinique, St Lucia and the host country have confirmed participation.
The local boxers selected are: Juniors: junior flyweight Omar Pollard (Pocket Rocket Gym), lightweight Christopher Moore (Essequibo Gym), junior welterweight Joshua Corbin (Carryl Gym). Youth: Bantamweight Keevin Allicock (Harpy Eagles Gym), junior welterweight Quincy Boyce (GDF Gym) and welterweight Michael Edwards (Forgotten Youth Foundation Gym).
The head coach is Clifton Moore while Floyd Grant is his assistant.
