Rose Hall Canje and RHTWSB to battle for supremacy

Busta Champion of Champions final …
GIANT Killers Rose Hall/Canje Cricket Club (RHCC) created another major upset to reach the finals of the 2009 Busta Champion of Champions Tournament when they defeated powerhouse Young Warriors by 21 runs at the Rose Hall Welfare Centre.

The two teams were playing for the second time in a week for a place in the final after playing to a tie in the first match.

Batting first after winning the toss, RHCC reached 160 all out in 39.3 overs of their allotted 50 overs.

Openers Totaram Seenanand and Rocky Bipat gave the home team a flying start scoring 62 in 12 overs before Seenanand was caught off leg-spinner Anil Beharry for 16.

Dinesh Gopaul joined Bipat and added 15 before Gopaul was caught off left-arm spinner Charran Singh for 9 at 78 for 2.

Bipat fell at 84 for 3 when he was bowled by Singh for a well-played 45 (4×5, 1×6). Skipper Romesh Munna hit a responsible 32 (1×4, 2×6) but was not supported by the middle and lower order batsmen as RHCC folded for 160.

Only No.9 batsman Shawn Jettoo reached double figures (15) for the remaining batsmen.

Young Warriors best bowler, left-arm spinner Charran Singh, had the remarkable figure of 6.1-1-20-7 and veteran Anil Beharry 2 for 30.

In reply Young Warriors were soon in deep trouble at 15 for 3 in the third over and then 23 for 5 in the fourth as opening bowlers Raffik Kassim and Vishal Mahabir bowled brilliantly.

Daryl Narine was dismissed without scoring, the dangerous Farouk Hussain 7, veteran Anil Beharry 4, while the hard-hitting Randolph Baker and wicketkeeper Ishwar Singh both failed to trouble the scorers.

Former national Under-19 player Balram Samaroo and all-rounder Davindra Ramoutar tried to repair the early damage by adding 42 for the sixth wicket before Ramoutar fell lbw to off-spinner Romesh Munna for 17, with the score at 67 for 6 in the 16th over.

Samaroo and Michael Fraser added 31 in 10 overs until Fraser was another leg-before victim falling to Shawn Jhettoo for 20.

Samaroo was eventually dismissed for a patient 42 (2×4) and with his dismissal Young Warriors collapsed to 139 all out in 41st over.

Bowling for RHCC, Vishal Mahabir took 4 for 20, Raffik Kassim 2 for 16 and Shawn Jhettoo 2 for 21.

Rose Hall Canje will now play Rose Hall Town West Indies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) in their final scheduled for Sunday at a venue to be named.

The tournament has been organised by the RHTYSC and sponsored by the Guyana Beverages Company.
