Larceny accused pump attendant on $100,000 bail

THE pump attendant who allegedly stole the initially reported $1.1M from M. Ali Gas Station, Lot 13 Strand, New Amsterdam, Berbice,  appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo on a charge  of larceny of clerk or servant. However, the particulars of the offence revealed that on July 25, last whilst being in the employ of Feroze Ali, he stole $406,300.
Initially, Ali had told the media that 17-year old Kishaan Brijmohan had swindled him of $1,100,700, after collecting the money from a fuel purchaser.
Police Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, prosecuting, requested that substantial bail be granted, while urging the magistrate to note the nature, gravity, and the prevalence of the offence.
Dayaram said the money was not recovered.
In a bail application, Charrandas Persaud informed the court that the prosecution did not provide legal grounds for refusing bail, and as such he is requesting reasonable bail, as his client was not the only employee at the gas station.
Consequently, the Magistrate ordered the defendant to post $100,000 bail, prior to returning to the New Amsterdam Court for trial on October 15.
