A 37-year-old fisherman, Chatenarine Harrynarine known as ‘Spoilfish’ of Devonshire Castle, Essequibo Coast has disappeared into the Atlantic Ocean while on a fishing trip.
Reports reaching the Chronicle said the fisherman left for sea Tuesday afternoon with a group of fishermen from the village for a three-day fishing trip but tragedy struck on the second day. of the trip.
A brother of the missing fisherman, Boodnarine Harrynarine who is the Acting Deputy Headmaster of the Anna Regina Multilateral School, told the Chronicle that the owner of the fishing vessel visited him around 1:30 pm Wednesday and informed him that his brother had fallen off the boat and had disappeared into the murky waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
According to Boodnarine, he was told that his brother went at the back of the boat to bathe at around 09:30hrs.Wednesday, but minutes later when the crewmen checked for him, he had disappeared.
Boodnarine said he was told that one of the crew members quickly jumped overboard and searched the water for his brother, but he was not found. The crew quickly pulled up their seine and headed for shore.
The matter was reported to the Anna Regina Police Station; the crew members were taken into custody and released the next day.
The crew was fishing in the Atlantic Ocean some miles off Dartmouth Village when the incident occurred.
Fishermen are currently searching the foreshore for the body.
