GIFTLAND Mall has taken on the challenge of assisting the National Blood Transfusion Services (NBTS) in acquiring much-needed blood. The mega mall yesterday hosted its second blood drive for this year in which more than 30 employees were expected to have donated a pint of blood each. The blood drive forms part of a list of activities being held in observance of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) month.

Giftland Mall Health and Safety consultant, Dale Beresford in a brief comment told this newspaper that the company encouraged their members of staff, as well as the general public to participate in the blood drive.

He said further, that the company has set out a target of 250 units of blood for this year. They have received 60 units from a previous drive conducted earlier this year and the expected goal at this drive is 40 units. Meanwhile, there was an awareness campaign where the young members of staff were sensitized about the importance of donating blood before the drive commenced.

The company will be hosting a vaccination drive tomorrow, and employees, as well as members of the public will receive free vaccinations for specified infections. This activity will be in observance of National Vaccination Week, and it will be conducted by the Immunization Unit of the Ministry of Public Health.
