Baby-father charged
GOLD miner Clevaughn Hamilton, called “Quarters”, who confessed to police that he killed the mother of his child, Simone Hackett of “C” Field, Sophia, then dumped her body in a canal at Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, was remanded to prison on Friday by Sparendaam Magistrate Zamina Ally.

The 30-year-old father of two stands indicted for the murder of 25-year-old Simone Hackett, allegedly committed between April 16 and 19, 2016.
Hamilton, of Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, was not required to plead to the indictable charge, and was remanded to prison until May 18.
Represented by Attorney Patrice Henry during his court appearance, Hamilton alleged through his lawyer that he was beaten by inmates while in the holding cell at Sparendaam Police Station. And according to the lawyer, he was denied the right to see his client.
After the court appearance, there was a confrontation between Hamilton’s relatives and family members of Hackett. Both sides were emotional as Hamilton was taken away by the police.
The mother of one was reported missing by relatives on April 17, after she had not returned the previous night from going to collect a package allegedly sent from Mahdia by Hamilton.
Investigators had questioned a bus driver and conductor who transported Hamilton to the city on Friday last, a day before Hackett went missing.
The report of the post-mortem performed on Hackett indicated that she died as a result of incised wounds to the neck. Her body was discovered by two schoolboys on their way to school, and was positively identified by relatives.
