Team Evolution dominates Universal Auto Sales feature 35-lap race

TEAM Evolution’s cyclists Michael Anthony, Raul Leal and Marlon ‘Fishy” Williams, dominated the podium positions of the 12th Annual Universal Auto Sales and Spares feature 35-lap cycle race which was held in the National Park yesterday.Competing in not so healthy competition, which saw a mere 13 cyclists facing the starting line, Anthony in company with Leal, Williams, Shaquil Agard , Christopher Griffith and Orville Hinds broke from the others after five laps of the 35-lap event and were never caught again.
Eventually, the six other starters were dropped as the race progressed leaving the top seven finishers to share the spoils.
With six laps remaining, Anthony jumped the pack and opened a sizeable lead, which extended for the next four laps, but with two laps left to complete the distance Leal and Williams closed in on him, but were unable to join him or even overtake him.
Leal outsprinted Williams to place second, while Agard was third, Christopher Holder finished fourth and Orville Hinds sixth.
Anthony, who won four of the eight prime prizes that were up for grabs crossed the finish line in a time of one hour 18 minutes 29.67 seconds.
Second-place finisher Leal along with Warren McKay, Orville Hinds and Williams won one prime apiece.
In other results from the day’s proceedings, john Niles won the BMX boys’ 6-9 years old two-lap race ahead of Shey Sue Hang and Alexander Leung respectively, while Jeremiah Harrison was the winner of the BMX boys 9-12 years old three-lap race. Second was Zab James and third was Sue Hang.
Adelaie Hodge won the BMX boys 12-14 years three-lap race ahead of Taran Garbarran and Harrison respectively, while Junior Niles won the five-lap race for veterans under 50 years of age. Second in this category was Ian “Dumb Boy” Jackson and finishing third was Jaikarran Sookhai.
The five-lap race for veterans over 50 years of age was won by Andrew Spencer,second was Kennard Lovell.
The presentation of prizes to the respective winners was done by son of Universal Auto sales and Spares Managing Director, Zayd Baksh.
The event was organised by national cycle coach Hassan Mohamed.
