POLICE are investigating the disappearance and suspected theft of $1.1M from M. Ali Filling Station, at Lot 13 Strand, New Amsterdam, Berbice, after a pump attendant went missing. Feroze Ali called Sammy, manager of the fuel station and supermarket complex, said the cash represented payment for 16 drums of gasolene bought by a Berbice River customer on Sunday.
He said the suspect in the theft, who only started to work at the business place three weeks ago, failed to report on Monday and checks, at his Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara home, failed to locate him.
It was discovered that the man being sought visited his grandmother but left his mobile phone behind on departing, Ali said.
