A HANDYMAN identified as Percy Harris died yesterday after falling from a tree at the Foreign Service Institute at Ramphal House on Shiv Chanderpaul Drive in Georgetown. While details are still sketchy at this time, another handyman at the institute said that Harris worked at the neighbouring Foreign Affairs Ministry for quite some time.
The Guyana Chronicle understands that around midday yesterday, Harris climbed a breadfruit tree in the Institute’s compound in order to pick the fruit, despite being warned not to do so.
“He climbed up and they tell he don’t go up there but he didn’t listen and while he was picking the breadfruit one of the tree limbs broke and he fell down and hit his head and other body parts on a concrete strip,” said the other handyman.
When they checked, he said, the man was still alive but apparently bled to death before the ambulance could have arrived.
‘I WOULD KICK YOU UP’
Meanwhile, while media operatives were seeking to gather further information about the incident, they were harshly treated by staffers and police officers at the scene, one of whom shouted, “Stop taking pictures or I would kick you up.”
The reporters were subsequently removed from the area while the police continued their investigations into the fatality.
