GPOC staff commended for new approach

IT was Friday last when I went to the GPO in time for 7 am (the post office is usually opened at 7 am for business). I forgot that it was pension day and that there would be a huge crowd of senior citizens waiting to be served. When I arrived, I was surprised there was not a crowd of senior and very senior persons standing in a line outside. Further, the gate of the GPO seemed to have been opened before 7 am!
Inside, there were many very senior citizens. Some were sitting in the chairs in the centre of the service area waiting no doubt to join the line. A bigger surprise was awaiting me. Those who were attending at the two wickets were there busily buzzing for the next person to approach the wicket! I could not understand what was happening until it was my turn for service. When I got to the wicket, I saw that the pension which the senior citizens had arrived to uplift was already parceled out (all amounts are the same) and just waiting to be handed out, after the usual paper work and stamping was done. This caused the line to move swiftly. I was flabbergasted! I instantly congratulated the ladies for their ‘strange’ but very welcome customer service. What a pleasant change!! How innovative! How caring!
I take this opportunity to congratulate sincerely the staff of GPOC for this new approach to their customer service…this innovative thinking and planning. It paid big dividends and the senior citizens were happy and made pleasant comments in their own way.
Will it be the same on pension day at the beginning of August?
