LEFT-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie finished with match figures of 9-98 as Guyana Jaguars completed a comfortable nine-wicket win over Barbados Pride in their third round 2015/16 West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Professional Cricket League (PCL) Regional Four-Day match at the Guyana National Stadium yesterday. That win takes Guyana to three consecutive wins for the season after they brushed aside the Leeward Islands and Windward Islands in the first two rounds.
Guyana needed seven wickets for victory on the final day of the match which resumed with the home team still ahead by 67 runs. Motie struck five times today to finish with 6 – 79 adding to his first innings figures of 3 – 19.
This performance follows his 11-105 in the previous match. The former West Indies Under-19 spinner now has 23 wickets and three five-wicket hauls from only three matches.
Pride resumed from their overnight score of 166 – 3 with overnight batsmen Shamar Brooks and Miguel Cummins (06). Cummins, the night watch, was the first to fall on the final day, and also Motie’s first wicket of the day.
That brought Roston Chase (50) to the middle who played an attractive innings along with Brooks (53) but Steven Jacobs had the remedy to remove both batsmen while the tail did not put up a fight.
Kevin Stoute (06) the captain, Ashley Nurse (02), Sulieman Benn (00) and Tino Best (03) all went cheap to Motie while Mario Rampersaud was left unbeaten on 16 as Barbados fell for 272.
Guyana then needed 40 runs for victory with over a session left in the day but they steamed to 43-1 in 7.4 overs. Shimron Hetmyer (14) was trapped LBW to Sulieman Benn but Assad Fudadin (09*) and Johnson who struck an aggressive unbeaten 9-balls 20 which included three fours and a smashing six off
Sulieman Benn (1-31) to seal the deal.
The defending champions have now taken their points tally to 54 with one more round to go before the season breaks for the Christmas holidays.
The Jags now turn their attention to the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force team whom they oppose at the Queen’s Park Oval, Trinidad from December 4-7.
