Councillor advocates passports availability at Anna Regina

MEMBER of the Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Mr. Omesh Oditt, is advocating that machine readable passports be made available through the Immigration Office at Anna Regina on Essequibo Coast. He told other councillors, at the Tuesday statutory meeting, that applicants for the travel document have to undertake the journey to Georgetown for the necessary paper work, then are required to return to the city within a week to uplift the booklets.
The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Councillor said the cost of the round trip to Georgetown from Essequibo Coast is $7,000 and residents, who need  passports, are finding it difficult to raise the one way fare much less the compulsory two.
Oditt maintained that the Anna Regina Immigration Office ought to become more involved in the passports delivery process and declared that it is unfair for Essequibians to be made to travel to Georgetown twice for the purpose.
